Atelier Creeptastic

I've been playing a bit of Atelier Rorona myself, and so far this game is weird in the characterisation department.
You've got your main character Rorona, who is a naive good-hearted 17 year old who's basically been sold into indentured servitude to her dickish Alchemy Master, Astrid who's like 29 or something (the instruction book is downstairs and I'm too lazy to go get it and give you an exact number but she's in her late twenties). There's no problem with Rorona, but Astrid...
Astrid molests Rorona while she's sleeping.
When I got to that scene I was like "what?" but I just chalked it up to a bad joke that didn't translate well, until the best friend character, Cordelia, notices that Rorona's looking upset later and asks "did that lady do something to you again?" with a really strong emphasis on the "do" so you basically know what she's talking about. Cordelia also calls Astrid scum to her face and says everyone in town hates her and will be glad to see her leave.
I'm like ...wait, she really is a child molester?! WTF.
Later, there's a cut scene with Astrid and the Knight who helps you out for some of the combat where Astrid makes a joke asking if he's hitting on Rorona. The guy, roughly the same age as Astrid, gets really angry and says to her "I'm not like you!"
This is creepy, 'cause Rorona acts really young, and the art style basically makes everyone look like they're 12 and I'm hoping my name hasn't gone on some FBI watchlist cause I bought a copy of this game. God knows what P will think of this.
...and the internet has just told me that in the original Japanese release Rorona was only 14, but the English translator aged her up for the North American release. Ew.

Date: 2011-08-23 12:35 am (UTC)I mean, in game, Rorona is so short compared to the other characters if you told me she was 10 I'd believe it, but for one thing; she has absolutely massive breasts.
They even gave huge tits to the shy girl character, and she goes around wearing pigtails of all things. She even has jiggle physics, for fucks sake.
For reference, here's a picture of Rorona from the game box.
