Jules Bashir
My Internet has been doing strange things this weekend. Both nights, it loses connection at exactly a quarter to five, and stays off until roughly ten-thirty. It's not my equipment - I've checked it all, so it must be the ISP. Weird. I hope this doesn't become a habit.
Anyway, since I had so much time without the siren song of the Internet to keep me occupied, I watched some DS9, mainly 'Dr. Bashir, I Presume?', the one where Julian's genetic engineering secret slipped out when his parents came for a visit.
It was a weird episode. The whole 'using your image for a hologram' thing was strange. It didn't really seem like Dr. Bashir was asked if he wanted to do it, it seemed like he was just told by Starfleet it was happening, so deal with it. Does Starfleet own the image of Bashir if he works for them?
Speaking of Starfleet, they're sure uptight about a little stat-buff. It's not like Julian can start fires with his mind now or something. It never made much sense, Star Trek hybrids like Deanna Troi or B'ellana Torres are technically a new species, neither human nor alien, and you can make as many of them as you like, but you're not allowed to do a little tinkering to an existing species? Strange rules.
I liked his parents though. His Dad was cute, and his Mum seemed level-headed enough to compensate. It was obvious that they love him, but he probably won't fully understand why they did what they did until he has his own kids.
...is he even allowed to have kids?

Bashir's dad was cute, but he looked like the absolute last guy in the world who could keep a secret. Plus, there's a lot of cameras around DS9... who knows what could end up on Odo's security logs.
All in all, I can't say I mind the augment Bashir storyline, even with all the trouble it caused, since it gave us the awesome Jack Pack.
